RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Tech softball picked up a pair of wins on Sunday against USC Sumter, scoring a combined 20 runs over the two games. The wins bring their record to 8-21 (2-8 conf.) on the season as they began a six-game stretch of non-conference play.
Game one: Wake Tech 11, USC Sumter 2 (six innings)
Victoria Sasser got the start in the circle and pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on nine hits and recording three strikeouts.
Kellie Strickland started behind the plate and hit leadoff for the Eagles, recording three hits and four RBI. She leads the team with a .432 batting average, and is seventh among Region 10 DII players.
Gabby Penny tied a career-high with four hits, the third four-hit game of her career.
Ashlyn Gaskins went 1-2, reached base three times, scoring twice and tallying three RBI in the win.
Game two: Wake Tech 9, USC Sumter 1 (five innings)
Kinsley Hanner got the ball for the second game of the day, pitching a complete game and allowing just one run on one hit. She set a new career-high with six strikeouts and picked up her fourth win of the season.
Gabby Penny came through with another productive game at the plate, recording three hits. She also stole two bases, bringing her season total to a team-leading 15. She's eighth among Region 10 DII players in stolen bases.
