FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Wake Tech softball started their season with two big wins on Friday over the Methodist University JV team. In game one, the Eagles plated 20 runs on 19 hits and followed that up with a 10-run performance in game two. Friday's sweep marks the first 2-0 start for the program since the 2023 season, when they took both games of a doubleheader against the William Peace University JV team.
Game One — Wake Tech 20, Methodist University JV 6
The Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but after the slow start, they put up 20 runs over the next six frames, including a nine-run seventh.
Freshman shortstop Kasie Roberts had a four-hit, four-RBI, four-run performance, reaching base in all six of her plate appearances. Kendra Stickland matched her RBI total with four of her own.
Sophomore outfielder Gabby Penny stole four bases in the win.
Right-handed pitcher Victoria Sasser pitched the final 2.1 innings in relief, keeping the Monarchs off the board and recorded four strikeouts.
Game Two — Wake Tech 10, Methodist University JV 5
Once again Wake Tech trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but the runs kept coming for the Eagles in game two. They finished with 10 runs on eight hits, securing their second victory of the season.
Freshman Taylor Smith, starting as the DP, picked up three hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
Sasser appeared in relief again for this game, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing just one run, and striking out three.
