Saigo, Wainwright earn NJCAA Region 10 men’s basketball honors

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Technical Community College's Shayne Saigo and Adam Wainwright were selected as NJCAA Region 10 Division II Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, by Region 10 DII men's basketball coaches.

A Knightdale High School product, Saigo transferred to Wake Tech for his sophomore season.  He averaged 22.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists during the 2021-22 season.  He scored a season high 37 points against Sandhills Community College on November 13.  He also grabbed 20 rebounds against Caldwell Tech on December 29. In all, he had 13 games with double-figure rebounds.

Kamron Humphrey, another Knightdale graduate, earned second team All-Region.  Humphrey averaged 14.3 points and 6.9 assists as a sophomore. Chance Jamison, a sophomore from Southeast Raleigh, was fourth team All-Region averaging 13.3 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Wainwright, in his sixth year at Wake Tech, guided the Eagles to a 19-5 overall regular season record and 16-3 record in conference games in 2021-22.  The Eagles are also the second overall seed in the NJCAA Region 10 DII tournament that tips off on February 22.  Last year, the Eagles didn't compete due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
