Historic season comes to an end for Wake Tech Baseball
ENID, Okla. — Wake Tech dropped a 6–2 decision to South Mountain (Ariz.) Community College on Monday at the NJCAA Division II World Series. With the loss, the Eagles' history making run to Enid and the World Series comes to a close.
South Mountain struck early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. A wild pitch brought in the game's first run before a sacrifice fly extended the lead to 2–0.
Wake Tech was held scoreless through five innings before breaking through in the sixth. Jackson Jones delivered an RBI double to score Brendan Fulcher, and Blake Gaffney followed with a run-scoring hit to cut the deficit to 2–2.
The Cougars quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning, putting up three runs to regain momentum and take a 5–2 lead. They later added an insurance run in the eighth to secure the 6–2 final.
Wake Tech finished with six hits on the day, with Jones, Gaffney, Fulcher, and Jentz Steiner each recording hits. Jones and Gaffney drove in the Eagles' two runs.
On the mound, Grayson McDonald took the loss after allowing five runs over six innings while striking out five.
South Mountain was led offensively by Bobby Pierce Jr., who drove in three runs, while Luke Hewes added a home run.
Wake Tech finished the season with a 31-24 record, first ever NJCAA Region 10 championship, and first ever appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series.
