A Tip of the Cap: Thank You Coach Kiec for 7 Great Years
Wake Tech’s first baseball coach is stepping aside as the program continues to rise in NJCAA Division II.
Wake Tech baseball has gained recognition from established programs for their competitive play and academic success. The familiar face at the helm is Christopher Kiec. Coach Kiec has remained a steady hand for the Eagles in a year round effort to recruit and mold raw talent into disciplined student athletes.
After seven seasons as a coach, mentor, and leader, Christopher Kiec has decided to step away from the game of baseball to spend more time with his family. "It was the most difficult decision I've made because I feel like the program is heading in the right direction and it's fun to watch the fruits of your labor," said Coach Kiec, "but with almost my entire team coming back and a very good recruiting class coming in, I know the team will be good next year, regardless of who coaches, so that is a good reason to give it to someone else. It will be an easy transition year and I always want Wake Tech to do well."
Christopher Kiec departs an Eagles baseball program that continues to build a positive reputation in the NJCAA Division II, Region X. After an inaugural season with 5 wins and 33 losses, the Eagles have reached new heights including a top-ten ranking in 2015 and a trip to the Region X Championship in 2016. For Chris, "I am most proud of the amount of players we have sent on to play at four year schools. With the 5 players we have going this year, we've had 20-30 players move on."
Barry Street, Wake Tech Athletic Director, reflects on Coach Kiec's qualities, "It's his overall approach to our student athletes, from the day they choose Wake Tech to keeping in touch with them after they move on. As valuable as he was to the program, he was equally important to making sure our students were committed to their academics."
